About The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button

"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" is indeed, a curious movie. This movie stars Brad Pitt as Benjamin, and Cate Blanchett as his one true love. Benjamin is born as a baby in his eighties, and then he regresses in age. The combination of characters and the "home" setting of the movie, makes for a very interesting story. "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" is basically a story, a story that follows Benjamin from the World War I Era through his lifetime of eighty some years.

The movie is initially set in New Orleans, where Benjamin is born, and New Orleans is where Benjamin calls "home." Because Benjamin looks so ugly when he is born (he looks like an old man), and because his mother dies in childbirth, his father leaves him on the steps of a retirement home, where is he raised, (in spite of objections), by a woman who becomes his mother. While at the home, Benjamin meets a little girl, who becomes the love of his life, which is an interesting story in itself, as she ages forward and he ages backward.

The movie intertwines the lives of the people in the retirement home, with the life of Benjamin, who throughout life, returns home, usually to visit his mother, or just because that is where life takes him at the time, and occasionally intertwines them with the life of his true love.

Benjamin has many decisions to make while growing up and regressing in age, and life takes him in many interesting and different directions. It is interesting to watch how he "makes lemonade out of lemons" throughout his life, and lives a full life in spite of his odd illness.

"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" is close to three hours long, yet it held my interest the entire movie. It was not a fast pace movie, but it was very unique and interesting, so much so, that I did not want to miss even a single word of what was being said, for fear I miss an interesting piece of information.

The story is told through the eyes of Benjamin and is narrated by Brad Pitt, while simultaneously, it is being read to Benjamin's true love on her death bed, by her daughter. The entire concept of this movie is new and unusual and leaves you with something to think about.

Possibly the only drawback to this movie is the length, but even though I am not one to usually like a long movie, I did not feel any part of the movie should be cut out. I definitely rank it as one of my all time favorites!

Synopsis/Review

From Amazon

The deservedly multi-award nominated The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button sees David Fincher team up with his Fight Club star Brad Pitt. Pitt plays Benjamin Button, a man born in an old peron's body who in turn ages backwards. While the premise may seem a little mind-boggling for some, Eric Roth (the writer behind Forrest Gump) and Robin Swicord's adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's short story is poetic, epic and intimate all at once. Critics have moaned about its length, but for the story and the characters to become a part of you, this film could not have been any shorter. The Currious Case Of Benjamin Button is a magical tale about love, understanding and acceptance, all themes ridiculously relevant in our time. Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett's chemistry lights up the screen. Together with Fincher and the outstanding supporting cast (inlcuding Tilda Swinton, Oscar nominated Taraji P. Henson and Julia Ormond), the tale of little Benjamin Button is uplifting and original. Giving away any scenes or technical effects would be ruining the magic. --Jennifer Kilchenmann
